Genevieve Darlene Ellifson, 89, of Strum, died Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Crystal Lake Manor in the care of her family and Black River Memorial Hospice.

Genevieve was born Tuesday, October 17, 1922 in Cando, ND to Robert and Nettie (Spangberg) Durbin. She married Vernal Ellifson on December 23, 1939 in Blair.

After raising her family, Genevieve worked as a cook at Rustad's Hilltop House for a number of years.

Genevieve was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, and was active in the WELCA. She was a member of Hamlin Homemakers for several years.

Genevieve enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, traveling, needlework and playing cards.

Genevieve is survived by her children, Barbara Sentz of Littlestown, PA, Randy (Debra) Ellifson of Strum, Vicky Kleckner of Oregon and Julie (Bill) Kensmoe of Strum; daughter-in-law Carmen Ellifson of Strum; 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren. She is further survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband Vernal; parents Robert and Nettie; son Richard; son-in-law Pat Sentz; grandson Craig Ellifson; sisters Ruby Schultz, Ilah Gabriel and Nona Schroeder; and one brother John Durbin.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Strum, with Rev. K.D. Taylor officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Strum.

Friends may call from 4-7 PM Monday at the church. Friends may also call one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

The family prefers that memorials be given to Black River Memorial Hospice in Genevieve's name.

Schiefelbein Funeral Home in Osseo is assisting the family.
