Married Annie Laurie Pitt

Granduated with an A.M in 1902 and graduated in June 1905 at the Episcopal Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia. He was one of a long line of ministers, including his father and many of his full brothers and half brothers, but his father's previous marriage.

He saved a very important piece of Civil War history. His mother, Roberta Cary had been married to Richard Corbin of Moss Neck plantation, downriver from Fredericksburg, Virginia. Stonewall Jackson, during the winter of 1862-1863 wintered at Moss Neck. Little Jane Corbin, a half sister of Wythe's, became very close to Stonewall. He gave her the band off his forage hat for her hair, which she treasured. Within a very short time she died of fever. Apparently, her mother Roberta kept the band. Eventually Wythe must have inherited it, as he presented it to the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond, Virginia
