Levin Smith Joynes married Ella Virginia Coggill on November 17, 1886, in Manhattan, New York.
They had two daughters, Julia Coggill Joynes and Virginia Archer Joynes.
According to his obituary, Mr. Joynes was a member and past president of the Commonwealth Club; one time president of the Richmond German and Country Club of Virginia; a member of the Hermitage Country Club; as well as being a member and past resident of the Virginia Society of the Cincinnati.
He represented the City of Richmond for a term in the House of Delegates, Virginia, in the 1880s.
His daughter Julia died in 1925; and his wife in 1932. Survivors include his daughter Mrs. Archer Joynes Beattie of Richmond, and granddaughter Miss Julia Joynes Hoeber of South Dartmouth, Massachussetts.
Mr. Joynes died June 18, 1942, after a long illness. Graveside services were held at 3 P.M. at Hollywood Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr, Vincent C. Franks, record of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, officiating.
