Katherine "Kate" Brennan was born in County, Monaghan, Ireland, in 1845, the daughter of Thomas Brennan and Mary (Colloton) Brennan. The Brennan family emigrated to Wisconsin, U.S.A, sometime after 1856. In 1866, Kate married Elbridge G. Jordan in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and they lived in Eau Claire for the rest of their lives.

Kate and Elbridge had nine children: William, Maud, Hattie, Ida, Charles, Arthur, Pearl, George and Albridge.

Four of their children were buried in Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire. Two daughters, Maud and Hattie, moved to Maine after their marriages. Hattie married Harry Gilpatric and died in 1911, being buried with her husband's family in Maine:Hattie Jordan Gilpatric
