OREGON CITY (Special) - Charles E. (Ed) LaTourette, chairman of the Clackamas County board of commissioners, died early Sunday morning in his home here apparently of a heart seizure.
Mrs. LaTourette was a native of Oregon City. He was born July 24, 1909, in the same block where he died.
Except for his absence during World War II, he has resided here all his life. He was educated in local schools and was graduated by the University of Oregon where he was affiliated with Kappa Sigma fraternity.
Mr. LaTourette served in the U.S. Army in both the European and South Pacific theaters of war. Prior to going into service, he had been assistant manager of the local branch of the First National Bank of Oregon.
He was elected county judge in 1954 and was the last to hold that position as the county commission form of government came into force during his six-year term of office. He was re-elected in 1960 and named by commissioners Stan Ely and Darrell Jones as chairman of their board.
Previously, Mr. LaTourette had served on the Oregon City School Board with a term as chairman.
He was a member of the Atkinson Memorial Congregational Church here, the Oregon City Elks Lodge and various civic organizations. He was a past president of the chamber of commerce.
Until forced by a crippling attack of poliomyelitis to give up golf. Mr. LaTourette was one of the top golfers at Lake Oswego Country Club.
Survivors include the widow Mabelle; two daughters, Mrs. Evelyn C. Kreuger, Oregon City, and Mrs. Gerald Evans, Medford; one son, Edward D., attending the University of Oregon; his mother, Mrs. M. D. (Edna) LaTourette, Oregon City, one brother, Linwood, West Linn; three grandchildren; an uncle John LaTourette Sr., Barton, and several cousins, including Cornelius LaTourette and John LaTourette Jr., Portland.
