GEORGE WASHINGTON BARNES

OREGON CITY, Ore.—Graveside services and inurnment for George Washington Barnes were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1997 at the Mountain View Cemetery in Oregon City, Ore.

Barnes, 89, of 700 Crossbow Drive, Green River, died at about 8 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997 at his home.

A resident of Green River since 1988 and former resident of Salem, Ore. and Albany, Ore., Barnes died following a sudden illness.

He was born Aug. 10, 1907 in Burley, Idaho, the son of the late William and Rachel Grassuried Barnes. He attended schools in Burley, and married the former Lorene R. Richards in Lakeview, Ore. on Nov. 26, 1930 and she preceded him in death on Oct. 13, 1990.

Barnes was a logger for the lumber industry in Oregon and California where he worked most of his life until his retirement in 1977.

He was a member of the B.P.O.E Elks Lodge in Eureka.

Survivors include on daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Richard Dixon of Green River; three grandchildren, Kevin Towery of Dallas, Rick Towery of Fairbanks and Connie Towery of Richmond, Calif.; five great-grandchildren, Sara, Cassie and Rick Towery, all of Yakima, Wash., and Cole and Haley Towery, both of Dallas; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Lorene, Barnes was preceded in death by two sisters.

The body was cremated.
