Jamaican Politician. Manley served as the Chief Minister of Jamaica from 1955 to 1962. Manley also founded Jamaica's Left Wing People's National Party and was instrumental in the island's participation in the Federation of the West Indies but bowed out to hold a referendum in 1961 which resulted in Jamaica withdrawing from the union. He was married to sculptor Edna Manley, considered by many as "The Mother of Jamaican Art". Manley's son Michael served as Jamaica's Prime Minister.
