Earl was born in Holland Township, Michigan, the son of Verdine and Minnie (Braun) Gillette. He married the former Lorissa Townsend on June 7, 1938. He served his country in the Navy Seabees during WWII. He was employed as a Construction Superintendent at Muskegon Construction Co. for nearly 20 years until retiring in 1976. He loved to work on cars and do building projects, including his own homes. He was a good husband and a good father who enjoyed having his grandchildren and other family stop by to visit. He proudly lived on his own until one week before his death. Surviving is his son, Charles (Marge) Gillette of Norton Shores; a daughter, Gale France of Lansing, MI,; 5 grandchildren, Robert (Sandi) Gillette of Roosevelt Park, Brian (Melissa) Gillette of Norfolk, VA, Megan Gillette of Norton Shores, Joshua France of Lansing, MI, and Abigail France of Spring Lake, MI; 4 great-grandchildren, Austin, Dylan, Caleb and Emma Gillette; a half-sister, Majorie Gillette; a son-in-law, Ronald France of Spring Lake, MI; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorissa; a brother, Gillette G. Gillette; a sister, Gilletta G. Lawrence; and a half-brother, Paul Gillette.
