A Chicago native, Father Peschel spent most of his ministry as a Jesuit priest in West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky. He was serving on the staff of the Milford Spiritual Center in Milford, Ohio, at the time of his death. He was the superior of the Jesuit community there and at the eastern Kentucky mission.
Described by friends as a man of very deep faith, Father Peschel spent more than two decades ministering to the poor and needy.
"He was one of the few men in the Chicago province who carried out the Jesuit ideals of living with the poor and serving the poor," said Rev. Bradley Schaeffer, who heads the Chicago province of the Society of Jesus. "He found great grace in being with the poor."
