Retired Minister Dies at Powell Home; Funeral Saturday

Rev. Harland Fuller Gould, 61, retired Congregational minister, died late Wednesday night at his home in Powell.

Mr. Gould was born in Scranton March 15, 1878. He was educated in Susquehanna Collegiate Institute, Towanda, and Westminster Theological Seminary, Westminster, Maryland.

He married Etta Allen at Powell on June 3, 1902, and was ordained into the ministry of the Methodist Protestant Church October 8, 1905. He served churches at Bloomingdale, N.J.; Seattle, Wash; Pittston, Pa.; Urichsville, Ohio; and Columbus, Ohio.

He then affiliated with the Congregational Church and served at McKeesport, Pa., and East Smithfield. He was chose by his denomination to serve as assistant state superintendent of Congregational Churches. After a break in health he retired from this work. Later he served churches at Wauseon, Ohio, and Middletown, Indiana. He moved to Powell in the fall of 1937 and since residing in this vicinity has been a regular and faithful attendant of the Universalist Church in Towanda.

He is survived by his wife, Etta Allen Gould of Powell; six children, Rev. Stanley A. Gould of Willinocket [prob. Millinocket], Me., Allen F. Gould of Binghamton, Mrs. Ruth Gould Smith of Binghamton, Harland Gould of Endicott, Mrs. Esther Gould Brown of Binghamton, and Carroll Gould of Powell; and eight grandsons.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the home in Powell. Burial will be in Powell cemetery.
