Peter Lombard, 59, a resident of Couderay, passed away at the Veteran's hospital in Minneapolis on February 5.
He was born in Couderay on Nov. 30, 1906. He worked in the CC Camp at Gays Mills for a number of years. He entered active service in the United States Army on Nov. 1, 1942, and served in battles in New Guinea, the Southern Philippines and Luzon. He was decorated with the Bronze Star and several campaign ribbons. He was honorably discharged at Camp McCoy on Oct. 22, 1945. He served with the Headquarters Battery 465th Gield Artillery Battalion.
Following the Army service he returned to Sawyer County and was employed at the Blueberry Lake Resort near Couderay for several years.
Survivors include three half-brothers, Gorman and Bernard Tainter and Jacob Kirk of Couderay.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, New Post, with Rev. Father Laurus Rhode, O.F.M., officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Couderay. Rosary services were held at the Anderson Funeral Chapel on Tuesday evening with Father Rhode officiating.
Military honors were accorded at the grave by Richson-Anderson American Legion Post 513 of Couderay.
