In around 1939 Fred Kirk "caught" a musky that weighed 72 pounds out of the Chippewa Flowage, in the Blueberry lake area. As the prize was taken by spear, he did not record it as a catch but he did weigh it on an ice scale and recorded it with a Brownie camera.

"Yesteryears" Feb. 15, 1940
The Grim Reaper, Death, made its appearance twice in the Couderay community during the past week, and on each instance claimed elderly old-time residents of that territory--in the first call Fred Keykendall, generally known as Fred Kirk, and later Mrs. Edwin Ferdon.

Sawyer County Record Feb. 15, 1940
Fred Keykendahl, better known as Fred Kirk, 70 years old, passed away after a long illness and was buried on Wednesday from the Presbyterian Church, Rev. Wallen officiating. His wife, two sons in Minnesota and a son Jacob of Blueberry Lake, survive him. Mr. Keykendahl has made his home here for 30 years.
