Hubert A. "Butch" Almany, age 69, of Lindale passed away on Friday, October 14, 2011. He was born in Reeves, Louisiana on June 7, 1942, the son of Earl Cornelius and Sarah Anne Slaydon Almany.

Butch's desire for music began early in his childhood in Nacogdoches, Texas and his passion for it continued to grow throughout his life. He earned his bachelors and Masters degrees in music education from Stephen F. Austin University in 1965 and 1968. He taught in Crockett, Overton and Shelbyville before bringing his magnificent musical influence to Lindale. In 1986 the newly constructed Lindale High School Band Hall was named in his honor. Butch was inducted into the Stephen F. Austin Band Director Hall of Fame in 1988, received the Lifetime Meritorious Achievement Award from the Texas Bandmaster Association and the Stephen F. Austin Distinguished Alumni Award in 1993, was inducted into the Texas Bandmaster Hall of Fame in 2008 and received the Texas Bandmaster of the Year award in 2009. He was a member of the Texas Bandmaster Association, Texas Music Educators Association, Phi Beta Mu, Kappa Kappa Psi and was a founding member of the National Association of Military Marching Bands.

Mr. Almany is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mrs. Naomi Almany of Lindale, Texas; son & daughter-in-law, Travis & Becky Almany of College Station, Texas; daughter, Elizabeth Bradshaw of Paris, France; granddaughter, Ashley Bradshaw of Nacogdoches, Texas; 2 brothers & sisters-in-law, Sammy & Jeanne Almany of Nacogdoches and Harry & Barbara Almany of Cleveland, Texas; 5 sisters & brothers-in-law, Earline & Marvin Baggett of Reeves, Louisana, Wanda & Cobb Alexander of Reeves, Louisana, Glenda Lantrip of Tyler, Texas, Pat Almany of Nacogdoches, Texas and Rita & Larry Kingrey of Sugarland, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.
