She was born on May 20, 1931 in Scott, Ohio. She was the daughter of Ferdinand and Vera (Lake) Adams, both of whom preceded her in death. On February 22, 1952, she married the love of her life, Donald L. Akom, who preceded her in death on June 25, 2007.
Bertha was a homemaker, employee of Van Wert Manufacturing and co-owner of the County Line Cafe in Scott, Ohio from 1983-1993.
She is survived by two sons, Donald P. (Vivian) Akom and Ricky L. (Suzanne) Akom, both of Scott, OH; two daughters, Sharon K. (Burt) Hittle and Kimberly M. (Chris) Martinez, both of Scott, OH; one sister, Alta Hockenberry of Angola, IN; 11 Grandchildren and 19 Great-Grandchildren; and Sammie, her beloved Boston Terrier.
Bertha was preceded in death by three sisters, Leora Hoaglin, Mabel Delong and Ruth Golliver; a brother, James L. Adams; and a granddaughter, Lacey Trammell.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Brickner Funeral Home, Van Wert. Burial will be in Scott Cemetery.
