She was born on April 30, 1927 in New York City, the daughter of the late Israel and Aurelia (Sans Souci) LaPoint.

Shirley graduated from Glens Falls High School class of 1945 and was a dedicated and faithful communicant of St. Mary's Church in Glens Falls. In her younger years, she served as Eucharistic minister and was very involved in her church community.

She worked for New York Telephone Company, Continental Insurance and in her later years at Glens Falls High School as a teacher's aide.

Shirley was an active member of the Glens Falls Senior Center and Queensbury Senior Center. She enjoyed volunteering for the Open Door Mission for over ten years.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her birth mother Celia Katherine "Louise" Barber-Shea, husband William E. Cleveland; her brothers Frederick "Bud" LaPoint and Joseph LaPoint; her grandchildren Laura, Elizabeth and Lee Sanford and her lifelong friend, Rita Dewey.

She is survived by her children Kathleen (Neil) Weiner, of Clifton Park, Sally (Richard) Sanford of Queensbury, and Mark (Judi) Cleveland of South Glens Falls; grandchildren Reid (Elspeth) Scott of LA, CA, Amber (Jim) Sears of Saratoga, Kyle (Paul) Bocchino of New Jersey and Katianna (John) Hong of LA, CA; great grandchildren Conrad Scott, Damon Scott, Alessia Hong, Teagan Sears, James Sears, Alessia Bocchino and Luca Bocchino and lifelong friends, Sue Traver and Ann Lampkins.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 am on Friday, October 20, 2023 at St. Mary's Church, 62 Warren St. Glens Falls.

Family and friends may call from 10 to 11 am prior to the Mass at the church.

Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, South Glens Falls.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Open Door Mission, 226 Warren St., Glens Falls, NY or to St. Mary's Church, 62 Warren St., Glens Falls, NY in memory of Shirley.
