Harold H. Van Horn Sr.
Pomona-Harold H. Van Horn Sr., 83, Pomona, died Friday, March 29, at an Ottawa hospital.
Mr. Van Horn was a dairy farmer. He retired in 1969.
He was born Nov. 26, 1901, at Canton, the son of John Herbert and Emma Eichelberger Van Horn. He moved to Franklin County in 1924.
Mr. Van Horn was a member of the United Methodist Church at Pomona. He also was a member of Kansas and National Holstein Associations, Franklin County Extension Board, Farmers Home Administration Advisory Board, Soil Conservation Board, Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service and Ottawa Co-Op Association. He was a 50-year member of Greenwood Grange and member of Kansas and national Granges.
He married Louise Reed May 30, 1923, at Manhattan. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Marjorie L. Atkins, Tulsa, Okla., and Dorothy E. Ingle, Topeka; a son, Dr. Harold "Jack" Van Horn Jr, Gainsville, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Frances Sutton, Garnett, and Mrs. Helen Fish, Nevada City, Calif.; three brothers, Percy Van Horn, Wellsville, Carl Van Horn, Lafayette, La., and John Van Horn, Brookings, Ore.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church at Pomona. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, southwest of Ottawa. Mr. Van Horn will lie in state after noon today until 9 p.m. Monday at Dengel and Son Mortuary at Ottawa where the family will meet with friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pomona United Methodist Church in care of the church or mortuary.
