Claude Frey Zachry
HENRIETTA - Claude Frey Zachry, 89, member of a Clay County pioneer family, died Saturday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at the Henrietta First Baptist Church with the Revs. Bill Solesbee and Tim Jones officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, directed by Davis Funeral Home of Henrietta.
Mr. Zachry was born in Henrietta and lived most of his life in Clay County. He married Mary Stuart in Terral, Okla. He had been a rancher, and had operated a grocery store, cotton gin, and a blacksmith shop. He was Precinct 1 County Commissioner for 28 years, and was also on the Stanfield and Henrietta school boards. He served as the president of the Clay County Pioneer Association and attended all 67 of the Pioneer Reunion and Rodeos.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mary Ruth Barrett of Ryan; three sons, Claude "Doodle" Zachry Jr. of Byers, H.C. Zachry of Abilene, and Bob Zachry of Henrietta; one sister, Katherine Rogers of Dallas; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
