NORTH HENDERSON - Donald L. Anderson, 81, North Henderson, died at 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at home.
He was born Oct. 8, 1930, in Galesburg, the son of Martin and Florence (Johnson) Anderson. He graduated from Alexis High School and attended Carthage College and Augustana College.
Donald served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955.
Don married Joan Likely on Jan. 1, 1952, at Zion Lutheran Church, North Henderson. She survives.
He was in the petroleum business and had served as president of the Village of North Henderson for many years. He enjoyed traveling and fishing.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday School. He was also a member of American Legion, V.F.W., Viking Club and belonged to Quad City Oilman Club for many years.
His family includes his wife, Joan; one daughter, Paula (Cecil) Gittings of Tuttle, Okla.; three sons, Les (Bev) Anderson of Mt. Carmel, Del (Dori) Anderson of Galesburg and Dan (Shannon) Anderson of Oklahoma City, Okla.; five grandchildren, Bob (Dana) Gittings, Becky (Dustin) Sandlin, Meagen Anderson, Lee Anderson, Logan Anderson; three great-grandchildren, Dylon, Arieus and Destiny Sandlin; several stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy (Keith) Dew of Aledo and Mary Tomlins of Galesburg; one sister-in-law, Betty Forsyth of Milan; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and twin sons.
Cremation was accorded. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2012, at Zion Lutheran Church, North Henderson, with the Rev. Beth Hamilton officiating. Family will be present at the church to receive friends one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left for Zion Lutheran Church, North Henderson Fire Department or Alexis-North Henderson Ambulance Service.
