Mattie Leah Lane was the third child of John Calvin Lane and Georgia Annetous "Nettie" Alley. The first two children, Edward Flack and Calvin are thought to have been born and died in Searcy, Arkansas. Their burial places are unknown. The family was thought to be living in Saline County when Mattie was born. Her father, John Calvin Lane bought land in what was later known as the Alcoa Plant area / McNealon Church. Her mother, Nettie, died in the home on January 17, 1891. Her grandfather, Reverend John Pinckney Alley, died there ten days later on January 27, 1891. Mattie died about five months later. Nettie and her father are listed in the Register of Deaths of the Saline County "Salem Methodist Church".

Burial places for Nettie and her three children are unknown, however I have placed them in Snow Cemtery because this is where Nettie's parents are buried. Memorial stones were place there by her cousins, LouJane Adams Wills and Melinda Alley McNutt.
