His parents were Amasa and Prudence (Whitcomb) Hyland.
On Dec 8th, 1825, Consider purchased for $2000 a farm in Roxbury, Washington Co., VT. In 1842, he left VT and moved to Will Co., IL. Accompanied by Minerva and seven children, he started on his journey with a team and wagon. He proceeded to Lake Champlain, crossing that he came via Champlain and Erie Canals to Buffalo, NY. Thence by lake to Chicago, where he drove a team to Plainfield. At the time the county was sparsely settled with few comforts of civilized life.
