Elizabeth Freeze was born February 4, 1814, in Thurmont, Frederick County, Maryland, daughter of George and Susanna Bowers Freeze. She was also the granddaughter of Michael and Catharina Nied Freeze, settlers of Frederick County from Berks County, Pennsylvania. She married 1st to Martin Newman on December 13, 1834, in Frederick County, Maryland. They were the parents of 7 children: Mary Sarah (died young), William David, Elizabeth Susan, Margaret Ann, Jacob Freeze, George Franklin and Mary Jane Newman. Martin Newman died in 1844, before the birth of daughter Mary Jane. Elizabeth then married 2nd on February 3, 1848, to Emanuel Forney, son of Marx Forney. He had previously been married to Fanny Elizabeth Rahn, daughter of Philip Rahn. Elizabeth and Emanuel were the parents of two additional children, Sarah Lucinda and Emanuel C. Forney. Elizabeth Freeze Newman Forney passed away September 25, 1881, in Graceham, Frederick County, and was buried on the 27th in Weller's Church Cemetery, Thurmont.
