RICHARD CADEN, 60, a longtime Duncombe area farmer and Pioneer seed dealer, died Sunday evening, May 13, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, where he had been a patient since last Wednesday. He had been in failing health the past year.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wed., May 16, at the Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. S. Willard Cunningham and Rev. James F. Hanke Jr. officiating. Buried will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Acacia Lodge will be conducting Masonic Services at 8:30 p.m. Tues. at Foster Funeral home in Webster City.
Richard Laverne Carden, the son of Ward and Aileen (Snell) Carden, was born Jan. 13, 1930, at Duncombe, where he received his education. On Oct 5., 1950, he married Betty Nail in Webster City. He farmed in the Duncombe community for more than 45 years and was a Pioneer seed dealer in that area for more than 30 years.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; one son, Dean Carden of Duncombe; two daughters, Deborah Carden of Naperville, Ill., and Diane (Mrs. Dennis) Richardson of Webster City; five grandchildren, Lori Carden, Randy Carden, Jennifer Richardson, Joshua Richardson, and Jonathon Richardson; his mother, Aileen Carden of Webster City; sister Ethel (Mrs. Donald) Samuelson of Carson City, Nev.; and brother Robert Carden of Webster City; one niece and one grandniece. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren and his father.
He was member of the Duncombe United Methodist Church, a delegate of the United Methodist Church Conference for several years, and also church board president. He was a past master of Acacia Lodge No 176, A.F. & A.M. He was past matron of the Order of Eastern Star, past president of Masonic Temple of Webster City, and also a member of the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine in Des Moines. He was a life member of President Reagan's Presidential Task Force and Member of the Republican Inner Circle in Washington, D.C.
