Clifton McCree, who had been dismissed from his city job of cleaning beaches opened fire on his former colleagues early this morning, killing five of them and critically injuring another before turning the gun on himself. He had worked for the City Parks Department for 18 years. He returned to the office trailer 14 months after his discharge and shot the employees as they gathered to pick up their assignments.
Those killed were Joseph Belotto, Mark Bretz, Kenneth Brunjes, Joseph Clifford and Donald Moon. Lelan Brookins was the only survivor.

Joseph Timothy Clifford, 37, of Sunrise, FL died Friday, February 9, 1996.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly; daughter, Nicole Clifford; two sisters, Mrs. Yvonne (Bill) Shelton of Houston, TX and Mrs. Becky (Jerry) Brand'l of Manchester, NH; and brother James Tucker (Lucinda) Clifford of Spartansburg, SC.
The family will receive friends on Monday 2:30 PM at the First -Baptist Church of North Lauderdale, 6177 Kimberly Blvd., North Lauderdale, FL 33068.
A funeral service will be held in the church at 3:00 PM with The Reverend George T. Smith officiating. Interment will follow at The Lauderdale Memorial Park Cemetery.
Arrangements by The Mason Funeral Home, 7151 W. McNab Rd., Tamarac, FL 33321. 954-721-3300. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be sent to the First Baptist Church of North Lauderdale.
