KENDALLVILLE - Deborah C. Peachy Thomas, 28, formerly of Kendallville, died on Friday, June 22, 2012, in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, due to cancer. She was an English teacher at Genius English Academy, Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Debbie was born on March 21, 1984, in Wichita, Kansas, to David and Jean Peachy, who moved to Kendallville before she was a year old. She was married to Mr. Robert Thomas, of Staten Island, N.Y.

In 2006, Deborah was a graduate of Indiana University, in Bloomington, with a degree in television production and fine arts. For three summers during college she worked at the Canyon Creek Sports Camp at Hughes Lake, Calif. After graduation, she worked for the Wilderness Outdoor Leadershi Foundation, also in California. In 2008, Debbie moved to Jeju Island, South Korea, where she taught English as a second language. From South Korea, she moved to Kaohsiung, Taiwan, continusing her ESL career.

While at East Noble High School, Debbie was involved in the show choir as well as the cheerleading squad. She also played tennis and volleyball. Debbie loved surfing, singing and playing guitar, climbing, hiking and almost every other outdoor sport and activity.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Thomas, of Staten Island, N.Y.; her father and mother, David and Jean Peachy of Kendallville; two sisters, Lisa Olivetti, and husband Jared, of West Lafayette, and Tamara Peachy of Upland; one brother, Zachary Peach, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and her grandfather, Willis Peachy of Kendallville.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville. Officiating the service will be her brother-in-law, Rev. Jared Olivette of the Immanuel Reformed Presbyterian Church in West Lafayette. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery in Kendallville following the memorial service.
