Born May 15, 1917 in Moorewood, Oklahoma to Mamie and Erman C. Bailey, Preston graduated from Hammon High School and was married to Eula Mae Burgess at Hammon, Oklahoma, on April 8, 1939. They lived in the Hammon community where Preston farmed. They moved to Pampa, Texas in 1953 where he worked for the Pampa Police Department until his retirement on October 30, 1983 as a lieutenant. Preston and Eula Mae visited Lake City, Colorado many summers since 1969. In May of 2002, they moved to Amarillo, Texas to make their home. He was a member of the Central Church of Christ where he served as a deacon and elder.
He was preceeded in death by his parents and two sisters. Survivors are his wife: Eula Mae; two daughters and sons-in-law: Carlyn and Jerry Baker, Amarillo, Texas and Viva Kay and and Gary Coulter, Sayre, Oklahoma; one granddaughter: Vanessa Norman and husband, Jeff; two great grandchildren: Brooke and Kathryn Norman; two brothers: Edward Bailey of Lubbock, Texas and Franklin D. Bailey of East Palatka, Florida; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to Westview Boys Home, Hollis, Oklahoma. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 24 at the Whinery Savage Chapel, Elk City, Oklahoma, with Kevin Ballard and Tom Bailey officiating.
Burial will be at Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service, Sayre, Oklahoma.
