Freak Accident Kills Man Near Kewaunee

Joseph Bauer Victim While Clearing Snow From Driveway With Tractor.
A freak accident took the life of Joseph A. Bauer, a Kewaunee County farmer, Saturday afternoon as he prepared to clear snow from his driveway.
According to Sheriff Darwin Legois, Bauer started his 1925 tractor and backed down the farm driveway to the road preparatory to plowing snow. The tractor apparently backed too far and down the ditch incline across the road. The sharp angle threw Bauer from the seat and the tractor, in reverse, continued over his body. Unable to climb the opposite side of the ditch, the wheels began to spin as they crossed the fallen man's head. The body was discovered about a half hour later by a passerby when he noticed the unmanned machine running in the ditch. Death resulted from a skull fracture. Coroner Victor Sherovsky ruled the death accidental and said there would be no inquest.
Bauer, a bachelor, lived alone at Rt. 1, Kewaunee, about a mile and a half south of the Norman Catholic Church.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 Tuesday at Klein & Stangel Inc., Funeral Home, Two Rivers, the Rev. M. J. Roehrdanz officiating. Burial will be in the Tisch Mills public cemetery.
Mr. Bauer was born in the Town of Carlton Aug. 21, 1890, son of the late Joseph and Anna Klimesh Bauer. He resided his entire life on the homestead farm. For a number of years, he operated a threshing rig in the area and also a portable sawmill, working in the same area.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Johanek of Tisch Mills and Mrs. Emma Zolk of Manitowoc, and a niece and a nephew. Friends may call at the funeral home,
