Eleanor V B Hughes of Orient, the co-owner of Hughes Antiques in Greenport, died Jan 22, 1988 at Eastern Long Island Hospital. She was 71.
Born in San Francisco Calif on May 5, 1916, she was the daughter of Dixon and Eleanor (Walters) Van Blarcom. She attended Rosemary Hall in Greenwich, Conn. Mrs Hughes lived most of her life in New York City where she worked as a buyer for Lord & Taylor. She and her husband Robert G Hughes lived in London from 1961 to 1966, and then moved to Orient and opened Hughes Antiques in Greenport.
She was president of the Shakespeare Club in Greenport, and a member of the Orient Yacht Club and the Oysterponds Historical Society.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter Eleanor Kip Hughes of Denver Colo; and a son Robert S of Baltimore Md.
A funeral service was conducted on Tuesday at the Orient Congregational Church, the Rev Don Hamblin officiating. Interment followed at Orient Central Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Orient Fire Department Rescue Squad or Eastern Long Island Hospital.
