Derwood Clardy, 84, of Stanton, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 12, 2004, in a Stanton nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 14, 2004 at the First Baptist Church of Stanton with Rev. David Harp, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Stanton with military rites by the VFW Post # 429. He was born on January 2, 1920, in Loraine, Texas and married Margie Clardy on February 18, 1947 in Breckenridge, Texas. Derwood and Margie moved from Baird to Stanton in 1948. He worked as a mechanic for his brother, Carl Clardy at Stanton Implement. He was later in business for himself. Then he worked for Bob Cain, and Field and Newton International. Mr. Clardy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stanton a member of the Stoger-Estes Post #429 of the American Legion. He was in the 82nd Airborne in World War II from 1944 to 1946 serving in the European Theatre, France, Germany and England and came home on the Queen Mary. He joined the Coservation Corps Coop in 1936 while in Phoenix Arizona.Survivors include his wife, Margie Clardy of Stanton, four daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Bert Foutch, Susie and Sam Weaverling and Dorothy and Terry Easley all of Greenwood, and Laura and Cliff Sikes of Midland; 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mae Yater, Margaret Hill, and Laura Lee Clardy, five brothers, Terrell, Roy, Doyle, Cecil and Carl Clardy. The family suggests memorials made to Home Hospice of Midland, 901 W. Missouri Ave., Midland, Texas 79701 or to the First Baptist Church of Stanton, P.O.
