County Memorial Hospital, La Crosse.
He was bom April 21, 1899, in
Kutter, Russia, to John and Eva
(Boehm) Schenkel. At 7, he came with
his parents to America, living in
California and Colorado before settling
in Kansas. He attended Rush
County rural schools.
He married Lena Meweno in 1823 in
Bison. They were divorced. He married
Marie Brack on June 8,1933, in
Otis. She died Jan. 8,1996.
A longtime area resident, he was a
former, worked for Montgomery Ward
for 12 years and was a salesman for
Scheifler's Inc., Great Bend.
He became a resident of the Rush County
Nursing Home, LaCrosse, in
December 1996.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, LaCrosse,
Survivors include two daughters,
niene E Richardson, Scotland, Ariz.,
and Leona Hayden, Hutchinson; four
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a
brother, Alec; two sisters, Mollie and
Mary; and two great-grandchildren.
Services are at 2 p.m. Monday in
the Janousek Funeral Home,
LaCrosse, with the Rev. Evelyn
Phillips officiating; burial in the
LaCrosse City Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the
Rush County Nursing Home.
