Carl Luther Brackett, 76, 560 N. Marble St., died Wednesday, Sept. 30, in an Atlanta hospital. He was born Sept. 1, 1916, in Lumpkin County. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and a local retired merchant. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II, a member of Rockmart American Legion Post Number 12, a member of the Atlanta Yaraah Shrine Temple, a member of Rockmart Masonic Lodge #97, and a Masonic Lo-12 Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Carrie Free Brackett. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Lou Brackett, Rockmart; two daughters, Mrs. Carla Chambers, Rockmart; Mrs. Beth Ray, Rockmart; three sisters, Mrs. Grace Chambers, Centre, AL; Mrs. Edith Pitts, Rhine; Mrs. Leslie Jackson, Centre, AL; five grandchildren. The funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2 from Fairview Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Davis, Rev. Glynn Clonts and Rev. Larry Ritch officiating. Interment followed in Rose Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ronald Brackett, Max Chambers, Ralph Akins, James Simpson, Cecil Akins, Gorden Forsyth, Charles Brackett and James Waits. Members of the Fairview Baptist Church's Men's Bible Class served as honorary pallbearers. Freeman Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. (The Rockmart Journal, Oct. 7, 1992)
