During his retirement, he was an outstanding member of the "Jones Gang" who met at the J Mart in Draper, NC. He was also certified to make coffee at the Railroad Cafe in Draper.
He served in the US Navy.
Mr. Burnette was predeceased by his parents, Nathan Edmond and Edna Saunders Burnette. He was also predeceased by son Jeffery Wayne Burnette.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kay Mitchell Burnette, daughter Robin Land Yeatts and grandchildren, Welsey Nathan Land and Emily Claire Land.
Funeral services were conducted by Reverend Sue Anne Morris at Boone & Cooke Funeral Home in Eden.
Burial followed at Mr. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Rockingham County, NC.
