Longtime Funny River, Sterling and Anchorage, Alaska resident Dale E. Bondurant, 82, died of complications from a stroke and Alzheimer's disease, at the Willows Nursing Home in Funny River.

He was born to Earl S. and Joy K. (Gesler) Bondurant.

He is survived by his brother, Byron Bondurant of Funny River, Alaska.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald and Robert Bondurant.

He was raised there and helped operate the family farms before and following World War II.

During World War II, he worked in the Pearl Harbor Shipyards. Dale migrated on the Alcan Highway to Alaska while it was still a military road, and returned to Ohio for one year to help his parents establish a dairy farm.

During the height of the Cold War, Mr. Bondurant worked at the Anchorage Docks handling munitions and at Fort Richardson as a machinist, where he retired after 30 years of "guessing close" in straightening otherwise useless crankshafts of heavy equipment. It was this ability for straightening crankshafts both at Pearl Harbor and at Fort Richardson that he was known for his work as a machinist.

Outside his work, Mr. Bondurant was known for his dedication to equal rights, for fishing and hunting, for posessing the ability to write Federal court briefs and to testify before the U.S. Senate Committees.

Through his will, Dale will continue his dedication to equality and proper resource use.

A memorial service will be held in the spring of 2007.
