Berlin L. Sparling was born October 4, 1920, in Taylorville, son of Lafayette and Ida Belle Mills Sparling. He married Catherine Andrighetti December 27, 1941, in St. Charles, MO.
Surviving are his wife; daughter, Jud (Larry) Stringer; grandchildren, Robyn Lazzarini, Debra (George) Yard and Ricci Lazzarini; step grandchildren, Sam Stringer, Sue Ellen Vince and Crissy Evans; great-grandchildren, Brandon (Erica) Estes, Jonathan, Matthew and Regan Yard,Samantha, Nicholas and Dezi Lazzarini; step great-grandchildren, Sammy, Shane, and Ryan Stringer, Abby aand Lauren Evans, Kevan and Noah Vince; sister, Helen Johnson; sister-in-law, Antonia Verardi; brother-in-law, James (Grace) Andrighetti and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eddy, Johnny Boy, Tom, Hershel and Alvin; sisters, Ethel Sparling, Mary Delaney, Josephine Schmiedeke, Lorraine Kelley, Ruby England and Shirley Gowdy; and nephews and nieces.
He served in the Army from 1942-1945 during World War II. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal.

Berlin married Catherine Andrighetti of Langleyville on December 27, 1941 in St. Charles, MO. He retired from Hopper Paper Mill and worked for the city of Taylorville for several years. He worked Webster Street Recycling Bins until the age of 88. He attended the First Presbyterian Church of Taylorville. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 and a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal. He loved to fish and hunt. He was also a proud fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers.
