NORTH PLATTE - Veronica Aller (Simon) Heelan died Saturday, Nov. 11, at North Platte, Neb. She was born Oct. 15, 1910, at Hastings. He parents were Carl and Henrietta (Young) Simon. Veronica was raised in North Platte where she graduated from St. Patrick's High School. She earned a B.FA degree and a Supervisor of Art Certificate from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, in 1932, and did graduate work at the University of Oklahoma. She then taught school for several years. She was married to Philip A. Heelan on Nov. 4, 1937. They lived on the Heelan Ranch and raised five children. Veronica pursued many interests and hobbies, including travel, genealogy and art. She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Christian Mothers Club and Serendipity Study Group in Valentine. She also was active in the Wood Lake Town and Country Club, the Valentine Book Club and the Sandpainters Arts Guild. Art continued to be an important part of her life, and brought her much pleasure and recognition. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Phil in 1982, their son Phil John in 1948, her brother Bill Simon, and son-in-law Joe Heelan She is survived by sons Bill and his wife Anne of Valentine, Tom and his wife Marilyn of Lincoln; daughters Mary Lou of Ogallala, Connie and her husband Duane Beal of Alliance, and Trish and her husband Lou Marcuzzo of Omaha; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters Mary Haigler of Casper, Wyo., Regis Bliss of Ft. Collins, Colo., Jack Ryan and her husband James of Green Valley, Ariz., Rose Ann Ott and her husband Wally of Lakewood, Colo., and Pat Sexton and her husband Jack of North Platte; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Heelan's Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, Nov. 15, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Valentine, with Fr. Jim Heithoff, Fr. Carl Ferris and Fr. James Janovec officiating.
