Robert Ellsworth Adams was born June 29, 1919, at Mitchell, Davison County, South Dakota, to George and Edith Mae Adams.

Before he entered the Army Air Force, Adams was in the Royal Canadian Air Force from March 11, 1941, until June 11, 1942, when Robert Adams transferred to the AAF. He was stationed for training at CG Southeast Air Force Training Center, Maxwell Field, Alabama.

Less than a month after Lt. Robert E. Adams had entered the AAF, he was killed in a plane accident on July 7, 1942, at Harris Field, Macon, Georgia. Robert's commanding officer wrote to Mrs. Adams: "Lieutenant Adams was an unusually diligent and hard-working officer of the Army Air Force. He exhibited initiative and intelligence in the performance of his duties and was in every respect a fine example of American manhood."

2nd Lieutenant Adams was killed along with Lt. John T Offutt in the crash of U.S. Army Air Corps BT-13A #41-1341 at Harris Field, Fort Valley, Georgia.
