Josephine died at the age of ninety-three, while a resident at the Park Manor Nursing Home in Park Falls, Price County, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of William Wolf and Mary Stangl and grew up at Glidden in Ashland County. Josephine graduated from Glidden High School, then attended Stevens Point Teachers College. She taught in Glidden, Kansas City, and Iron Mountain, Michigan.
Josephine married Harold Bessey in June of 1934 and the couple owned and operated the Highlands Motel in Kansas City for nine years. Although they did not have children of their own, they did have numerous nieces and nephews. Harold died in 1973.
