Mr. Barnes retired from Carnation Milk Company as Regional Sales Manager after 30 years of service. He was a former member of College Place United Methodist Church for 35 years and at the time of his death, a member of Chapin United Methodist Church.
Mr. Barnes was a Master Mason, and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII having served in the European Theater.
Survivors are his wife, Martha Gibbons Barnes of Prosperity, sons, Edward R. Barnes, Jr., and wife Barbara M. of Summerville, SC and Carl Richard Barnes of Marathon Key, FL, a daughter, Cissie B. Lewis and her husband Terry of Irmo, SC, five grandchildren, Edward Reid Barnes, III of Atlanta, GA and Jennifer M. Barnes of Atlanta, GA, W.R. Medlin, III of West Columbia, SC; Andrew Richard Medlin and Cody Lewis, both of Irmo, SC; a sister, Martha Barnes Green of Rome, GA; three nephews, William Victor Willingham of Pond Branch, SC, Julian Green of Atlanta, GA; and Richard Green of Rome, GA; a niece, Mary Griffin of Rome, GA. Mr. Barnes is predeceased by his wife of 39 years, Frances Willingham Barnes.
