Holt Co., MO obits- Bridgeman, Jno. W. died 7 Jan 1898 at his home in Bigelow Twp., aged 86. He was born in Wythe Co., Va., 1 Aug 1812. At his age of 7, the family moved to Campbell Co., Tenn. and then to Ala., where he drove a stage. Moved to Georgia and back to Tenn. In Tenn. he married Miss Lucinda, a daughter of George Gibson, in May of 1834.
Five boys and 5 girls were born and 8 with his wife survive him. Came to Buchanan Co., Mo. in 1838. In 1845 to Clay Co., Mo. and in 1847 to Holt Co., Mo., on the Mo. river, northwest of Forest City. He made 2 trips to Calif. in 1850 and 1854. Lived for a time 1857-58 in Brown Co., Kan. Burial in Old cemetery at Mound City, Missouri.
NOTE: It in commonly stated that John W. Bridgeman and Lucinda Gibson were married in 1834. However, I have the rolling pin that John carved for Lucinda and presented to her as a wedding gift--so claimed by the family lore. It was handed down to me by his granddaughter, Aimmie Bridgmon Boggs, who was my grandmother. It has the date carved in the handle--1836.
