Professional Hockey Player. A native of Ottawa, Ontario, he was the son of Canadian Football League coach Sylvester 'Silver' Quilty. He played in the National Hockey League at the position of Center for five seasons (1940 to 1942, 1946 to 1948) with the Montreal Canadians and Boston Bruins in a career that was interrupted by service during World War II in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He made his debut with the Canadians in 1940, and had a stellar rookie seasons, playing in 48 games, scoring 18 goals, and having 16 assists, and was awarded the Calder Memorial Trophy Rookie of the Year award. After the 1941-1942 season with the Canadians he enlisted in the Canadian armed forces, and did not return to the NHL until 1946. He played until 1948 with the Canadians and Bruins before being released by Boston. He played a few more years in the hockey minor leagues before retiring for good in 1952 with career NHL totals of 125 Games played, 36 Goals and 34 Assists. After his hockey career he retired to his native Ottawa, Ontario where he died in his apartment unexpectedly at the age of 48 in 1969.
