Her father was a judge and several of her brothers were lawyers. Her family stayed in Anderson County, South Carolina, all their lives, but when she became the second wife
of John Lewis Eubank in 1879, she began her married life in Virginia.
The 1880 U.S. Census documents J. L., age 60, occupation: hotel keeper, and Mary, age 40, residence: Warm Springs, Bath, VA. She and her husband ran a resort hotel in Virginia named Healing and Warm Springs, which was later run by the son of J. L. from his first marriage to Sally Champe Carter, Hill Carter Eubank. This census shows only one other family member living with them: Mary's mother Elizabeth Hampton Harrison Whitner. No documentation of children born to this marriage has been found as yet.
After the death of her husband in June 1888, Mary Eubank was appointed U.S. Postmaster of Warm Springs, Bath County, Virginia, July 17, 1889.
Mary is documented in the 1901 Richmond City Directory:
"Eubank Mary T wid J. L., 508 e Grace"
*See obit at left. Mary died in her home state of South Carolina at the age of 79. She was at the home of her nephew, William C. Whitner. It is unknown why her interment took place at Hollywood Cemetery, since no close family members have been identified there as yet.
