Edwina "Wheats" Olney Young Call, 86, died Wednesday, (September 28, 2011) at her home in Newport News. She was the widow of Douglas Call, Jr. She was born in Hartford, CT and grew up in Wethersfield, CT, where they were married in 1948. After living in Charlottesville and Richmond, VA, they lived for a time in Dallas, TX and Birmingham, AL, before moving back to Virginia and settling in Newport News in 1973. "Wheats" was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, The Junior League of Hampton Roads, and an enthusiastic, devoted "Friend of Bill's". She was a graduate of Emma Willard School in Troy, NY and Sweet Briar College. She was an avid tennis player as a member of 'The Lolits" at JRCC. She is survived by two sons, Douglas Call, III of Newport News, VA and Edwin Young Call; and two grandsons, Aaron and Jordan, all of Va. Beach; VA; and her daughter, Frances Shattuck Call of FL. Arrangements are by Weymouth Funeral Home, 12746 Nettles Drive, Newport News, VA.
