J.M. STALEY FUNERAL HELD AT CLEAR LAKE
CLEAR LAKE - Funeral services for J.M. Staley, 88, former commercial photographer at Watertown and Clear Lake who died in Watford City, ND Tuesday, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Congregational church here.
A committal service will be held at 3:15 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Hope cemetery, Watertown. Another service was held today at Watford City. The body will remain at the Clear Lake chapel.
Mr. Staley was born in Bucyrus, Ohio, the son of Josiah and Parthenia Staley. He and his brother, the late Dr. Franklin Staley, and their mother came to Watertown in 1880.
He lived in Bauville township briefly before attending a photography school in Galesburg, Ill., in 1882-83. The next year he established a photography studio in Watertown, which he operated until 1902.
TO CLEAR LAKE
At that time he moved to Clear Lake, where he ran the Staley Photo shop until retiring in 1945. He moved to Watford City shortly afterwards.
While at Watertown he maintained shops at Clear Lake, Milbank, Clark, Castlewood and Toronto.
He was married in 1885 to Alice M. McAllister, who died in 1945. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and one son.
Surviving are eight children: Mrs. Parney Gilfoy and Clyde Staley, Watford City; Mrs. Ruth E. Millard, Watertown; Frank, Buffalo, SD; Glen, of Hobbs, New Mexico; Joe, Belmont, Califor., James, Harlowton, Mont; Roy, Great Falls.
He also leaves 13 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews, including Mel M. Staley, Watertown, and Max Staley, Huron. (Obit Watertown Public Opinion March 30, 1950)
