Mr. Smolak, owner and proprietor of Leg's Inn, died of a heart attack in his home on Sunday morning. He was born in Kamionka, Poland and came to Chicago, Illinois in 1912. He moved to Cross Village in 1921.

Mr. Smolak had several diplomas from art schools and was well known for his carving and unusual wood works which decorated the inn. His tavern was written up in feature articles in publications throughout Michigan and the nation and several times in Polish press.

He owned and operated Leg's Inn for 46 years. Before that he operated the Bluff Hotel, in Cross Village. Mr. Smolak was known to the Indians a "Chief White Cloud."

He was married in Chicago May 28, 1921 and his wife, Eleanor, preceded him in death in May of this year. A son Joseph died several years ago.

Survivors include a brother, John and sister, Mrs. Mary Pipala, in Czarna, Poland.
