AVA -- Barbara S. Young, 68, of Granite City, formerly of Ava, died at 11:19 a.m. Sunday, July 1, 2012, in Relais Bonne Eau in Edwardsville.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 6, in Thomas Saksa Funeral Home in Granite City. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Glen Carbon. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Granite City Animal Protection Association.
Mrs. Young was a bookkeeper for 15 years at Allstate Insurance in Glen Carbon.
She was born Nov. 29, 1943, in Murphysboro to William and Ada Jane (Smith) Popejoy. She married Timothy R. Young on June 24, 1972, in Granite City; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Christina and David Pyles of Granite City; granddaughter, Chelsea Pyles; grandsons, David Pyles II and Cyle Pyles; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna and Keith Searcy of Versailles, Mo., Betty and Delbert Klein of Chester and Wilma and Alan Cross, Vera Cross and Mary Jane and Wilburn Guy, all of Ava.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sally Sarenson; and brothers, Jim R. Popejoy and William Wayne "Bud" Popejoy.
