Decatur – Dr. Gordon McGhee, 84, of Decatur passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2012 in his home.

Dr. McGhee was born on August 1, 1927 in Mt. Vernon, IN to Lee and Nellie McGhee. He graduated from the U of I in Urbana with an engineering degree in 1948, served in the US Army during the Korean War-research laboratory (SCREL), and later graduated from the U of I School of Medicine Chicago in 1961. Dr. McGhee practiced family medication for 27 years and after closing his practice, was employed by DMH medical clinics for 8 years.

Dr. McGhee was an active member of Riverside Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Trustee for over 25 years, taught Sunday School, was a choir member and participated in drama productions. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing, boating, and Cardinal baseball games.

Dr. McGhee is survived by his wife, Charlotte, of 53 years, children: Bryan McGhee (Mary) of Phoenix, AZ; John (Peggy) McGhee of Rockford, IL; Faith McGhee of Taylorville, IL; Thad McGhee of Decatur, IL; 3 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service to celebrate Dr. McGhee's life will be 10:00 am Friday July 6, 2012 in Riverside Baptist Church. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Thursday in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Entombment will be in Graceland Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard and conclude with the "Flight Home" ceremony. Memorials are suggested to the Riverside Baptist Church Missionary Fund.
