Maria Edwards of Manti, age 94, passed away Friday June 16, while in the care of a skilled nursing facility in Nephi Utah. She died peacefully of natural causes, surrounded by
her children.

She was born in Santo Domingo de Heredia, Costa Rica in Central America, on Aug. 17, 1918 to Josepha Zamora Diego Salas and Amado Cascante
Chaves.

She was baptized into the Catholic faith on Aug.
25th 1918 in Santo Domingo de Heredia, with the name of MariaEster del Socorro Cascante Salas. Her family and very close friends lovingly
called her "Teyo."

Her father was a baker by profession and her mother a homemaker. MariaEster was the fourth child in her family.

She married Jilberto Sequeira Padilla in 1937 in Costa Rica, and the couple had a son they named Oliver Camilo Del Socorro Sequeira Cascante Salas.

In 1946 she married Vasil William Morgan Kosan in the Canal Zone and a daughter, VivianEster Kosan Cascante Salas was born to that marriage.

MariaEster married Ralph Lawrence Edwards Sr. on January 12, 1957, while living in Balboa Canal Zone and later solemnized the marriage in the
Los Angeles LDS Temple, after her conversion to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Three children were born in this marriage: Lorna Maria, Ralph Lawrence Jr. and Loren Lori. After the death of Ralph, she married Harold Moss Bair.

From the time MariaEster was baptized in the LDS faith, she was actively involved serving in all aspects of the church. She became the first Relief Society President to the native Cuna Indians from the 365 San Blas islands of the LDS Branch in Balboa Canal Zone, serving several local missions. After the death of her husband Ralph she served an honorable full time mission to San Diego Calif.. She also lovingly served as a Manti Temple worker for eighteen years, bringing her great joy.

Our mother was not afraid of hard work and was taught that value as a child. Although she did not have the opportunity to attend and receive a formal education, she loved learning and expanding her mind in all aspects of life. She especially developed a great love for learning all she could about the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. Domestic skills brought her great joy as did gardening and sewing. One of the jobs she took on to provide for her children included sewing jeans for a major company using a pedal sewing machine. As a youth she was regularly
selected to represent various women of the Bible for the famous Easter parades in Costa Rica. You could easily find her being hand-carried on large
platforms, on main streets during these famous and historic celebrations. Some of her hobbies included rifl e shooting, hunting wild game in the jungles of Panama and deep sea fishing,
successfully catching sword fish and barracudas.

She is survived by her five children; son Oliver Sequeira of Manti; daughter VivianEster Kosan (Lewis) Bagnall of St. George; daughter Lorna Maria (Carl) Petersen of Tremonton; Ralph Lawrence Edwards Jr. of Manti, and Loren Lori (James) Colby of Madesto, Calif.; 22 grand children and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph Lawrence Edwards Sr; and forth husband, Harold Moss Bair; and numerous family
members.

Her life was celebrated on Saturday- June 23rd in the Manti Tabernacle.

Interment was in the Manti City Cemetery under the direction of Rasmussen's Mortuary of Mt. Pleasant.
