Our loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Alvin Wade Rice, 80, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at McKay Dee Hospital. Wade was born on October 10, 1931 in Hazelwood, North Carolina to Harlie and Willie Belle Thurmond Rice. Wade graduated from Black Mtn. High School in North Carolina and Weber State University.

Wade joined the Air Force and was stationed in Garmisch, Germany, and then Hill Air Force Base, Utah.

He married Doris Higginbotham in 1954 in Black Mtn. They were able to spend 57 wonderful years together.

Wade was a member of the Washington Heights Church.

After he retired from the Air Force in 1971, Wade went to work for Pillsbury. He also became a bus driver for the Utah School for the Deaf and Blind.

He enjoyed coaching little league football and baseball. He loved watching high school football and basketball.

Wade is survived by his loving wife, Doris; son, Todd Rice; daughter, Laurie Rice (Vincent) Satovich; 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; brothers, Arthur Rice and William Leslie Rice and sister, Mildred Rich Goldsmith.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Washington Heights Church, 1770 East 6200 South, Ogden. Friends may visit family on Tuesday from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. at the church. Arrangements entrusted to Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary.

Interment, Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
