Emma Jean Franks, 72, of Caldwell, died Thursday, December 25, 2008, at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Monday, December 29, at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Caldwell with Rev. Rick Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 9 a.m. until time of the service on Monday, at the funeral home in Caldwell.

She was born on May 31, 1936, in Clay, Texas, the daughter of Preston and Mabel Coleman Pennington. She attended school in Snook and was married to Homer Eugene Franks on January 2, 1955, in Hugo, Okla. She worked as a private nurse and for Caldwell Elementary School in the cafeteria. Family members described her as a "#1 Mom", loving sister and grandma. She was fascinated with nature, especially the world of rocks. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, O. P. Pennington, Jr., Johnny N. Pennington, Thomas (Mac) Pennington; three sisters, her twin, Frances Carlene Wessington, Margaret Louise Cozzy, and Marjorie Lucille Clayton.

Survivors include her six children and their spouses, Homer "Bimbo" Franks, Jr., III and his wife, Ann of Bryan, Teresa "Reesie" Franks-Warner and her husband, Grady of Caldwell, James Alan "Frog" Franks of Jackson, Mo., Nancy and her husband, Ronald Sebesta of Frenstat, Paige and her husband, Phil Bamberg of Austin, James Robert "Bobby" and his wife, Dianne Franks of College Station; eleven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and another one expected; brothers and sisters, William De Pennington of Industry, Ina Ruth Cozzy of Del Mar, N.Y., Rev. James R. Pennington of West New York, N.J., Zack N. Pennington of Bowie, Md., Larry W. Pennington of Hilltops Lakes, Texas, and Jo-Lynn Turner of Caldwell.

Family members have requested that memorials be made to Calvary Baptist Church in Emma Jean's memory.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell.
