She was a native of Sumter County and a daughter of the late Silas and Idella DuRant Mellette. She was formerly a public school teacher in the Chestnut Ridge Community of Laurens County and a member of the Mountville Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. J.T. (Eleanor) James, Jr. of Sumter, Mrs. W.E. (Mary) James of Anderson and Mrs. Betty W. Wacker Hagen of Winston Salem, North Carolina; four sons, James Mellette Wham of Mountville, Norman W. Wham of Anderson, George S. Wham of Hightstown, New Jersey and Robert D. Wham of Winston Salem, North Carolina; twenty-three grandchildren; and twenty-eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Wednesday in the Mountville Presbyterian Church with burial in Mountville Cemetery.
The body is at Gray Funeral Home of Clinton and the family is at the home of James Mellette Wham of Mountville.
