Mrs. Mary Emma Butcher Holder, 95, of Mount Airy, widow of Frank Holder, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2008, at Golden Living Nursing Center. Mrs. Holder was born on June 29, 1913, in Surry County to the late Adolphus Butcher and Louiseanna Moser Butcher. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and was retired from Spencer's Inc. Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Shirley Holder of Mount Airy; two grandchildren and spouses, Angie and Gary Flippin and Lisa and Michael Hawks, all of Mount Airy; and three great-grandchildren, Tia Flippin, Tanner Flippin and Savannah Hawks, all of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Holder was preceded in death by a son, Charlie Frank Holder; a sister, Maggie Moore; and six brothers, Wade, Ernest, Edgar, Harvey, Charlie and Oscar Butcher. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Dale Wallace. No formal visitation will be held at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or to Antioch Baptist Church, 137 Antioch Ave., Mount Airy, NC 27030.
